Darek of Old World Winery

  • Local Cellar 2801 22nd Street San Francisco, CA, 94110 United States (map)

Darek Trowbridge, the Pastoral Winemaker, comes from a long family history of grape growing. Back when Darek started Old World Winery, there was no common term for the less-is-more, natural style of winemaking he wanted to pursue. The best descriptor for the wines Darek was aiming to make was “OldWorld” style; this being without synthetics, or additives in the vineyard or in the vines. The wines that our ancestors made. Since the beginning, Darek has pushed the envelope of farming, adopting biodynamics in the vineyards, and a “less-is-more” attitude in the cellar adding just a minimal dose of Sulfur to only some of his wines. And thanks to that, Darek makes phenomenal wines that taste to the terroir and concentration of the 120+ year old vines he cultivates. Come try his 5 Red wines as he pours his Chianti Classico-like 'Abundance', the rich fruit, spice and gentle earthiness of his Alicante Bouschet, the mouth watering acidity, not unlike a young Red Burgundy, of his 100% Abouriou, and the black cherry, blackberry, and plum with hints of toasted oak, herbal medicinal qualities, and soft silky tannins of his 100% Syrah, and finally, the must try Oenococcus fermented Russian River Pinot Noir!

Tasting is free and available anytime from 5:00 - 7:00.  Must be at least 21 years old.
